Our story

Mamakas Food Group (MFG) is Canada’s preeminent Greek restaurant and catering company with a portfolio of 4 restaurants across Greater Toronto.

It all started with Mamakas Taverna, founded in 2014 by owner and operator Thanos Tripi. A tribute to the matriarchs of his family, Mamakas provided Thanos an opportunity to further connect with his Greek heritage whilst channeling the most authentic representation of Aegean cuisine to a new generation of food lovers and culturalists.

As the Aegean region evolved and expanded its worldly appeal, so to the identity of MFG. The Agora and Bar Koukla were soon added to the stable to build on the cultural renaissance of the Aegean region. The iconic islands of Mykonos and Santorini have brought a new wave of guests to our tables, and with them a wider appreciation of Aegean music, art, food and wine.

After 8 years solidifying our standing in one of the world’s strongest culinary communities, our little corner on Ossington has grown into a hospitality group with over 120 staff, an in-house marketing team, and the most celebrated and talented chefs in the city.

Aegean cuisine is shaped by the sun, the sea and the soil. Culinary methods passed down through generations have become an intrinsic part of Aegean Culture.

Our mission is to provide the most authentic representation of modern Greek cuisine and culture, while holding on to the generations past.

There is no compromise. Quality in all aspects of our operation is paramount. Whether its sourcing produce or our corporate culture, we value quality above all else.

We’ve spent years cultivating meaningful relationships with producers that care. Our ingredients wear the aromas of Mother earth; oregano, thyme, olive oil. Our seafood and fare from the land rich in flavour and feel.

Our vision is one of access; we endeavour to bring you the most authentic ingredients possible. As fresh as we can find. As unique and interesting as possible. We celebrate the subtle differences of our Mediterranean neighbours, and bring a contemporary lens to every creation, all the while providing an unrivalled guest experience.
